Olympiastadion: The home of the Summer Olympics

There were significant renovations completed to the stadium during the years, most recently in 2004. The stadium now has a capacity of nearly 75,000 people and it is the biggest stadium in the nation that hosts international games. It is known as being one of the best all-rounded stadiums in Europe.

It has been used for athletics over the years, as well as football. Hertha BSC has been playing its home games at the Olympiastadion since 1963. It has also been the venue for games during the 1974 FIFA World Cup, as well as the 2006 FIFA World Cup when it also hosted the final. Every year, the DFB-Pokal cup competition in Germany is played at the Olympiastadion.

Other notable events to have been hosted at the Olympiastadion in recent years include the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2011 and the UEFA Champions League Final in 2015.

Over the years, other sporting events such as American football games and boxing have taken place. It was at the Olympiastadion where sprinter Usain Bolt broke the world records for the 100 meters and 200 meters sprint races.

There is the ability to temporarily extend the capacity of the Olympiastadion in certain circumstances. This is through the erection of a mobile grandstand, adding a couple of thousand extra seats. There are only two stadiums in Germany that have bigger capacities than the Olympiastadion.

They are the Allianz Arena in Munich and the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. However, the Olympiastadion is still the stadium with the most seats as the other two arenas also have standing areas contributing to the total capacity.
