The Masters Snooker

The Masters Snooker Tournament

The Masters Snooker Tournament is one of the biggest snooker tournaments in the world and is the second longest running championship behind the World Championship. Although it isn’t a ranking tournament, it is one of the ‘Triple Crown’ events in snooker (the others being the World Championship and the UK Championship).

The Masters Snooker tournament list of winners read like a ‘who’s who’ of snooker. Past champions include Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, Steve Davis,Dennis Taylor, Stephen Hendry, Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Matthew Stevens, Paul Hunter and Mark Selby. It’s no wonder therefore that it’s a very popular snooker tournament to bet on.

Online snooker betting on The Masters Snooker

Whilst is is possible to bet on The Masters in betting shops, by far the most popular way to bet in snooker is to bet online. Before and during the Masters tournament, you’ll find that there are a myriad of ways to bet and add an extra dimension to your enjoyment of this wonderful tournament.

Outright tournament betting

This is perhaps the simplest way of betting on The Masters Snooker. Outright tournament betting is simply choosing who you think will win the tournament outright. Before the tournament, every entrant to the tournament will have odds assigned to them, the favourites for the tournament having the lowest odds, the outsiders having the highest. It’s then simply a case of choosing who you think will win the tournament and placing a bet on them. As with any form of betting, if you bet on one of the favourites, you will win less (because they are more likely in theory to win). Betting on an outsider lessens your chances of winning, but if they do the rewards are much greater.

It’s also possible to bet on the outright winner throughout the tournament. Here though, you’ll find odds changing throughout. For example, a player who was initially an outsider but who has shown tremendous form in the early rounds will see their odds shortened significantly. Therefore, it’s not just important to think of who you choose, it’s important to think about when you bet, as this can significantly affect the odds.

Betting on individual matches

As well as betting on the outright winner of The Masters tournament, you can also bet on individual matches. Before a match, both players will have odds and it is simply a case of choosing who you think will win and placing a bet accordingly. Thanks to developments in betting technology, you can also bet in-game too on who you will think will win the match, with live odds changing constantly reflecting the changes in the game.

Spread betting on The Masters Snooker

Spread betting is another option if you want to bet on The Masters. Unlike more conventional types of betting, with spread betting you don’t just risk losing your stake if your bet loses, you can end up owing the bookmaker money.

When spread betting on snooker, you are placing a bet on a range or ‘spread’ of outcomes and your success (or loss) depends upon whether you successfully predict whether the eventual outcome is above or below that spread.  So for example:

The bookmaker deems Ronnie O’Sullivan will win a particular frame by 45 – 55 points. If you think he will win by more than that, you may choose to place £5 per point above the spread.

  • If Ronnie O’Sullivan wins the frame by 100 points (45 points more than the spread), you stand to win £225.
  • If Ronnie O’Sullivan wins the frame by 5 points (40 points less than the spread), you stand to lose (and owe) £200.

Whichever way you choose to bet on The Masters Snooker, then one thing's for certain, it is a great way to add to the excitement of this wonderful snooker tournament.
