Run on Worcester’s ever-popular meeting on the first Saturday in June, Ladies Day, the Arctic Spas Novices’ Chase is a Class 3 event run over 2½ miles and has proven to be a great event for first and second season chasers looking for summer jumping opportunities.
This feature race on this day was the Valerie Lewis Memorial Handicap Chase, but since that race was taken out of the schedule this event has popped up as the most valuable contest on the day despite the presence on the card of a good Class 3 handicap hurdle over two miles, seven furlongs.
The event is for those aged five and over who face thirteen fences around Worcester, running for total prize money of around £12,000. The race attracts some nice types, the 2019 winner Potterman, for example, scoring by ten lengths before winning twice more and finishing the season rated 142.
