Run early in the day on a Friday in mid-December, the Christmas Meeting at Bangor-on-Dee has become a local festive favourite as Christmas jumper competitions and yuletide drinks are the order of the day, while group bookings for Christmas parties are encouraged.
As far as the racing action goes, the day is comprised of seven competitive events as the National Hunt season gets going in earnest, many trainers and jockeys looking for opportunities at this time.
The feature race is an £11,000 three-mile Handicap Chase, a good quality Class 3 events usually attracting a fine field. It is backed up chiefly by another Class 3 race, the 2m7f Handicap Hurdle which acts as a qualifier for the Challenger Stayers’ Hurdle Series.
Other races on the card include a pair of Handicap Chases and a good Novices’ Hurdle with the prospect of some fine animals taking this meeting in before going on to better things.
