The Del Mar Futurity is a Grade I race that was first run in 1948 and it has been taking place ever since at the Del Mar Racetrack. It takes place over seven furlongs and is open to two years olds, with weight allowances being in place. The prize pool is $300,000 and it has been classified as a Grade I event since 2007. It has been run on different surfaces over the years, taking place on the dirt track these days.
