The undisputed number one on an excellent list of both flat and National Hunt events scheduled for Kempton Park each year is the King George VI Chase.
It has two main reasons for its notoriety; firstly, as a Grade One event over three miles, it acts as one of the key races of the whole jumps season for staying chasers, second only in grandeur to the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March.
Secondly, it takes place every year on Boxing Day, meaning it is hugely well supported by racing fans both in terms of those attending the track, those watching at home, and especially those looking to bet.
Past winners of this huge race include some of the most high-profile chasers ever, namely Mill House, Arkle, Pendil, Wayward Lad, Desert Orchid, One Man, See More Business, Best Mate, Kicking King, Kauto Star and Long Run.
Trainer Paul Nicholls has had a particular knack with this race in recent times, winning it twice, each with Silviniaco Conti and Clan Des Obeaux.
