Run midweek just after the Cheltenham Festival in mid-March, Plumpton Racecourse Racecourse’s Spring Jumps Meeting offers a very early chance for those with the Festival blues to get back racing and they do so when National Hunt horses are at their very fittest and most competitive.
The well-attended Sussex track began this race day partly to promote its excellent feature race, the Class 3 Sky Sports Racing Handicap Chase and did so for the first time in 2019.
The main chase event is run over three miles, one-and-a-half furlongs and is worth around £11,000 but it is also ably supported by five other races. A Maiden Hurdle, Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, Handicap Hurdle, Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase and a Bumper all feature over a range of distances.
While crowds aren’t expected to be huge at this meeting, it remains an important one given the time of year when there are plenty of top yards looking for opportunities for their jumpers around the country.
