Description
With five reels, three rows and a whopping 243 Paylines, African Legends was released by Slingshot Studios in autumn 2020.
It’s set in an appropriate-looking landscape of trees, rivers and clouds. What’s more, the weather changes depending on the features in play; for example, there’s a burst of sunshine when you score a win.
Perhaps unusually for an African-themed slot, the background has virtually no references to animals, sunsets or sunrises. The soundtrack, though, is more typical, with rhythmic drumbeats to accompany your playing.
How to play
Place your bets from 0.25 to 25 – the betting range is quite nicely varied here. And, of course, you can also enjoy African Legends on your mobile device of choice.
Reels may remind you somewhat of Gonzo’s Quest, with their carved-out images. The symbol set comprises four low-paying icons alongside five more rewarding ones. As is typical, the less lucrative emblems are the card suits, here depicted as hewn from stone.
Animals do make an appearance as the higher-paying icons, depicted in close-up – lookout for warthogs, rhino, hippos, lions and elephants. These pay up to 6x stake for five in a row.
African Legends Slot Special Features
Special Symbols
Wilds (golden statues) here do their usual thing of replacing any other of the game’s icons, and in African Legends slot, these can land stacked on Reel 3. You won’t find Scatter symbols here, however.
Bonus Features
You’ll be glad to know there are a fair few features in African Legends slot to keep the game moving along, even if none of them is that startlingly original.
Wild Blast
This feature launches at random, and it’s a mechanic turning five icons Wild, so it could boost your earnings no end. However, it won’t trigger during or immediately after a Rolling Reels sequence (explained below).
Rolling Reels
This bonus kicks in following every win, and effectively replaces Scatters. Contributing icons are taken away so that new ones tumble into the spaces left behind. This can result in one spin yielding multiple winning combos.
You’ll also follow the Multiplier Trail, getting a multiplier of up to 10x for seven rolls in a sequence.
What’s more, you get free spins, too, up to 20 for seven rolls in a row, descending on a scale to a dozen free whirls plus a 5x multiplier for four consecutive rolls.
Jackpot
Land eight consecutive rolls to hit this game’s progressive jackpot – and, as ever, the more you stake, the greater your chances of scooping it. It’s just one sum, destined for one lucky winner.
Called the Wow Major jackpot, it kicks off at 50,000 and increases until it’s won.
Other than that, a top win here is 1,200x stake.
Return to Player (RTP)
This isn’t the highest at 94.92%, in keeping with most progressive jackpot slots, although hit frequency is pretty good at over 37% or more than one in three. Expect mid-volatility here; the wins tend to be frequent but not that massive.
Verdict
African Legends slot is certainly a nice-looking game, and you will love it especially if you enjoy a progressive jackpot. But you do need to be aware of that medium volatility, coupled with a pretty low RTP. Give this game a try in free demo mode in the first instance, without parting with any real cash; we’d love to know how you get on.
