It’s the game with the name no one’s heard of! Alchymedes Slot is a five-reeler with four rows and 30 Paylines from Yggdrasil Gaming, combining the twin themes of alchemy and one of the top scientists from classical antiquity, the Greek mathematician Archimedes, who was also interested in making base metals gold. The game is set at a time when science and magic were considered interchangeable.
The ornate reels turn on a set of apparatus bordered by a couple of instruments, with the equipment and furniture of an antiquarian lab in the background. The place is really a ‘mad scientist’s’ set-up, with a faintly dark feel about it, and it’s eerily lit by candles.

Among the more lucrative icons are four potions in green, blue, orange and purple. Meanwhile, the less rewarding symbols are playing-card values in similar colours although red replaces orange.
Wins pay out both ways, i.e. from left to right and vice versa, so 30 Paylines create 60 opportunities to win. Form winning combinations with three or more similar symbols in a row on a Payline, kicking off from Reel 1 or 5.

Special symbols
The Wild is a large green symbol apparently representing radioactive waste, with the word across it in white lettering. It replaces other icons to help form winning combos in the standard way but also has some additional functions as described below.

Levelling up
Whenever you scoop a winning combination, the background to the relevant symbols becomes gold. You complete a level once all positions on a line are golden. Each win contributes to the multiplier to the right of the screen (on the Alchemist’s Scale) once every level is done, and then that multiplier is added to your most recent win.
Every level has a 1x multiplier, to begin with, but this can rise by up to five times randomly on every spin. It’s applied to the win with which you complete that level.
Before the next level kicks off, you’ll have the chance of an enhanced Wild pattern or a higher starting multiplier. These mini-features, awarded at random, include:
- 2x or 3x starting multiplier
- Up to 2,000 coins
- One or two Wild pattern positions added
- Multiplier to rise with each spin
Wild patterns
On the apparatus to the reels’ left-hand side, you can see the Wild pattern that’s currently active. A new pattern is chosen at random for every new level.
The pattern drawn as each level begins stays in place for the whole level, and each Wild which lands spreads according to the pattern.

Yggdrasil sets itself high standards for its slots, and Alchymedes Slot shouldn’t disappoint. Reviewers have praised the design and graphics here, while there should be enough innovation and creativity in the bonus perks to sustain interest.
