Description
Berryburst MAX is a five-reel slot with three rows from industry giant NetEnt, launched in 2018 and based, as its title suggests, on the original game of the same name, albeit with a few key tweaks.
Central to both offerings are fruits, plus appropriate sounds and graphics to create a whole package, with the reels set against a purple background.
It’s the first in this operator’s MAX series of games, offering more sizeable coin wins than those which came before them – alongside choppier volatility.
In fact, many of the differences are so subtle you may struggle to distinguish between the earlier Berryburst and this latest incarnation. But one important distinction is the altered volatility.
The reels look to be set inside a refreshing soft drink, and there’s a fruity cocktail of symbols that will delight fans of retro slots.
How to play
This game doesn’t use an arrangement of conventional Paylines. Instead, it works on a Cluster Pays mechanic.
You win by landing at least five similar icons in one cluster wherever you like on the reels – and you can match up to 15 icons from one spin. A symbol can join the cluster horizontally or vertically.
The bigger the cluster, the greater the resulting reward. This is a gaming mechanic which NetEnt seems to particularly enjoy.
The betting range kicks off at 0.10, rising to a high-rolling 100 maximum.
Symbols include fruits like raspberries (the highest-paying standard icons), limes, grapes and oranges. There are also three less lucrative playing-card emblems.
The control panel is as you’d expect, and very similar to the original game’s, with Autoplay etc. all present and correct.
Berryburst MAX Slot Special Features
Special Symbols
You’ll find a couple of Wilds in Berryburst MAX; a regular plus an expanding one. They can appear on all reels. In standard fashion, they replace other icons to help you scoop winning combos.
Bonus Features
There’s just one in Berryburst MAX, as described below.
Wild Respins
Land a Wild anywhere on the reels and it expands to take up the whole reel. If it forms a winning combo, it locks in place, while the other four reels respin.
Should another Wild show up, the process repeats itself – all Wilds rocking up stay locked until no more respins occur. What’s more, you can trigger five respins in a row.
Jackpot
You won’t find a progressive jackpot here. Instead, the max payout is 6,000x wager. Sweet!
Return to Player
RTP or Return to Player in this slot is 96.23%, as opposed to 96.56% in the original. And you’ll find variance to be on the high side. So expect relatively few wins, alongside stronger winning potential.
Verdict
If you’re a player who craves action, this fruit salad of a game may leave you feeling somewhat short-changed.
There are no free spins or multipliers, after all, and very little in the way of extra features bar those respins and expanding Wilds. However, if you’re a fan of classic slots, you may well love this one.
In any event, we suggest you try out Berryburst MAX in free mode to see for yourself if it’s a game that works for you.
