Powered by Quickspin software, Leprechaun Hills is played over five reels plus 40 set-in-stone Paylines, and a non-standard four rows.
It’s inspired by the Irish St Patrick’s Day celebrations. Set against lush rolling hills and rivers, the green reels have an ornamental gold frame. We’re not sure it’s like that in Ireland all the time, but the sky here at least is blue and clear.
Chilled-out Irish music can be heard in the background, completing the Emerald Isle ambience. (There are also plucked harp string sounds when you hit Spin.)
How to play
Adjust your bets as usual, setting up the Autoplay function if you so wish. As ever, the Spin button gets the reels moving. (You can alter your bets at any point to reflect your budget.)
The minimum bet here is relatively high at 40p a spin – the maximum is £80. The control panel in the bottom half of your screen lets you keep an eye on the paytable and keep tabs on your bankroll and winnings.
The symbols here are familiar rather than startlingly original, with a line-up including Guinness pints, four-leafed clovers, a golden horseshoe and the most rewarding of all, the jolly wee leprechaun himself. There’s also a toadstool, while the A through 10 values (done out in a Celtic design) represent the lower payers.
The clover and lucky horseshoe pay out the most for five of a kind, followed by the toadstool and Guinness pint.
Leprechaun Hills Slot special features
The game’s logo serves as the Wild symbol here, as ever replacing all icons save the bonus Scatter symbol, which is a pot of gold.
Play this once you land a winning combo involving a medium-value symbol (i.e. a clover, toadstool, Guinness, horseshoe or leprechaun). Massive stacks of that icon then appear on the reels, and a respin is awarded.
Rainbow free spins feature
Play this when three pots of gold Scatter symbols land at the same time on the middle three reels (i.e. 2, 3 and 4), and scoop seven free whirls.
Also, look out for the rainbow icon. This converts into a random medium-value symbol to enhance your winning combos – half the time. So for 50% of spins in this round, you have the top possible winning formula on the reels.
Hit the jackpot
There’s a top prize of 2,000x stake in Leprechaun Hills. That’s for a Payline full of leprechaun symbols when betting at the maximum level per spin.
Return to Player (RTP)
RTP or Return to Player in Leprechaun Hills is a bog-standard, but not-too-shabby 96.49%. However, bear in mind that this is a more than the usually volatile offering from this operator, so don’t expect the Rainbow Free Spins perk to trigger that often.
Generally speaking, to win big you need to bet big here. But if you have a smaller budget, play with the lowest stakes and aim to activate the free spins or respins perks.
Obviously Leprechaun Hills is an addition to an already lengthy list of Irish-themed slot games. But it’s a welcome one in an overcrowded arena nonetheless, with smooth gameplay and clear, large symbols. It certainly scores highly in the entertainment value stakes, and of course, is visually incredible with some very crisp graphics.
Frankly, there’s nothing too groundbreaking about this game, but it could be a smart choice for the less experienced player. And, of course, it doesn’t have to be St Patrick’s Day for you to enjoy it. So give it a whirl – and may the luck of the Irish be with you!
