The fairytale of the Snow Queen dates back to when Hans Christian Andersen wrote it in 1844. The story features a magic mirror which reflects the evil aspects of those who gaze in it and serves as a study in good and evil.
2 By 2 Gaming has brought the famous tale up-to-date with this 5×3 Snow Queen Riches slot incorporating 25 set-in-stone Paylines.
The game’s icons float on see-through reels, while the background encompasses a frozen wasteland, including a Disney-style magical castle, the Snow Queen’s home. It’s all set to some jaunty orchestral music, which you can choose to mute if you want to.
How to play
You’ll see five regular icons on the reels. These incorporate the pair of kids who feature in the original fairytale (Kai and Gerda), the mirror, reindeer and roses.
Also in the symbol set are the usual lesser-paying playing-card values, 10, A and J through K.
Kai is the most lucrative of these standard symbols. Play from 0.25 to a relatively modest 25 per go.
Snow Queen Riches special features
The Snow Queen herself serves as your Wild emblem here. You’ll only see her on the central three reels, where she replaces all other symbols to help create winning combinations. The exception, as ever, is the Scatter, here represented as a castle.
Whenever the queen rocks up on those middle three reels, she spreads to take up the entire reel; equally, you’ll also be in line for a single wager-free respin.
The additional spins keep flowing, as long as you continue to win – while the multiplier goes up to a 4x maximum. (This is known as the Frozen Wild feature.)
Snow Queen bonus
Named, obviously, after our heroine, you’ll need, as usual, a hat-trick of Scatters to activate this feature. This must happen on the central three reels, and, when it does, you’re presented with a couple of options:
- Free spins: Enjoy 10 no-charge whirls, more if you scoop more Scatters during the round. Equally, the Frozen Wild bonus should kick in more frequently.
- Bonus Wheel: Just give this a whirl for a total wager multiplier that can be as high as 100x, but is guaranteed to be at least 4x stake.
The wheel offers a safer, guaranteed reward, while the free spins could end up giving you more – but not necessarily. A lot depends on your attitude to risk, and whether you’re in the mood for a little excitement or just prefer to play it safe.
You won’t find a progressive jackpot in Snow Queen Riches; instead, the highest win is 80,000 coins both in the base game and the free spins round.
Return to Player (RTP)
Volatility in Snow Queen Riches is pretty high, while RTP or Return to Player is set at a reasonable 96.02%. Hit frequency is higher than one in four (25.91%).
You should have a great deal of fun with this slot, which has some terrific visuals (and may remind you of Disney’s Frozen), while the bonus rounds kick in with pleasing regularity.
