The Houghton Mare’s Chase is a race that began in 2015 and it is a listed race. Mares and fillies that are at least four years old are able to enter and in total there are sixteen fences that have to be negotiated in this race. It usually takes place at the end of November or the beginning of December. The creation of this race was an idea by the British Horse racing Authority in order to boost National Hunt racing for mares. There is a prize pool of £30,000 on offer.
