Description

You’ll have heard of the renowned Route 66 crossing America from Chicago to LA. But this is the fictional Route 777, offering an alternative way to get your kicks in the form of a slot from Swedish developers Elk Studios.

Its innovative yet simple three-reel, 17-Payline format blends a classic fruit machine layout with a modern dot matrix. Look forward to 1980s-themed retro-style sound effects, a fortune wheel and a game that’s loaded with spins and respins. There’s a definite road trip and motorbiking theme going on.

Route 777 is playable across multiple devices.

How to play

There’s a distinctive look to this game, with its detailed sunlit highway picture including cacti and a gas station. Reels are set below a pixellated screen featuring scorpions and tumbleweed, which lights up to show any wins.

As usual, the Spin button sets the reels moving, and you can play from 20p a pop. The Coins Stack icon allows you to regulate coin size, while the Three Bars button gives you access to the Paytable. You can also use the Auto button if you want a break from spinning the reels manually.

With only three reels involved, you create standard winning combos when you fill all three spots on a Payline with the same icon. However, how much you win varies according to your betting strategy and which symbols appear.

Some symbols have a Hell’s Angel vibe, such as the skull and cross-spanner icon granting free spins bonus games. Others include cherries, lemon and Bars, alongside cacti and the Route 777 symbols in red, white and blue.

When the multi-coloured crown symbols land across a line, you get the top base-game prize of 7,000 coins.

Choose your betting strategy

Start by choosing one of the following betting strategies. These really are only options, adding potential excitement to your playing, and could carry a certain level of risk. (These strategies also add to Route 777’s uniqueness.)

  • The Optimiser Bet uses a percentage of the available balance – choose between 1% and 10%
  • The Leveller ups the stake following five losses in a row to a maximum of 10x the starting point
  • The Booster strategy increases the bet after just one loss, albeit by a smaller margin than the Leveller
  • The Jumper will raise a bet one level following every win and resets after a loss

Special features

Bonus game

Land three skull and cross-spanners symbols to trigger this feature, and win five free spins. During this round, getting two more skulls lands you a random set of additional spins between five and 15.

Land three more together, though, and you get to play the Fortune Wheel mini-game. In this, all symbols become 7’s of varying values, and the wheel spins until three matching symbols have landed, or until the red Stop sign pops up. Winnings increase with every successful spin.

Overtake respins feature

This triggers when three matching symbols land on the first two reels, giving you five respins. With each spin, Reels 1 and 2 move one notch downwards.

Return to Player (RTP)

Nothing to frighten the horses here, it’s set at a pretty conventional 96.3%.

Verdict

While some have found the design of Route 777 a little odd, and the screen above the reels somewhat distracting, it’s definitely worth a shot nonetheless. So hit Route 777 and make it your road to a fortune! Have a free try-out before playing for real in any of the Elk Casinos.
