Towards the end of August, Bangor hosts its annual Gentlemen’s Day. Much to their credit, Bangor is one of few tracks to add this as well as a Ladies Day to their fixture list and it is certainly growing in popularity.
Naturally, there is a Best Dressed competition featuring various prizes, but still, race days at Bangor will always be about the on-track action and in this case, that means a minimum six-race card highlighted by the two-and-a-half-mile Handicap Chase.
The 2019 renewal of that race was taken by a horse ridden by champion jockey Brian Hughes, showing the stars are on show, and the event is backed up by a Mares’ Maiden Hurdle, a Handicap Chase, a Novices’ Hurdle and a couple of Handicap Hurdles.
This event is seen as the ideal combination for those in and around Bangor looking to dress sharply, back a few winners and enjoy the hospitality in the (hopefully) fine weather!
