Betfair Chase at Haydock Park 2024

The Betfair Chase, named for sponsorship reasons but registered as the Lancashire Chase, is the feature event on a massive day of National Hunt action for Haydock Park, the Merseyside track every November.

The main event carrying Grade One status is run over a trip just shy of 3¼ miles and is worth the best part of £200,000. The race is a key trial for the Cheltenham Gold Cup as well as being a great race in its own right.

Established as recently as 2005, the Betfair Chase has very successfully inserted itself into the jumps calendar with its list of winners reading quite honestly as a who’s who of chasing.

Kauto Star, a four-time winner and the only horse to regain the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Imperial Commander, who was already a Gold Cup winner, Silviniaco Conti, who won two of these and a pair of King George VI Chases, plus dual scorers Cue Card and Haydock specialist Bristol De Mai have all been victors in this contest.
