A midweek race but an important one on Worcester’s calendar, the Richard Davis Memorial Chase takes place in October just as the National Hunt season is getting going in earnest and is staged as a limited novices’ event over 2 miles, 7 furlongs.
This event can attract some fine future chasers who are climbing the National Hunt ladder, especially those from yards with an eye on big upcoming staying races and is backed up on the card by the Class 2 £30,000 Fixed Brush Hurdle Series Final, a 2½-mile novices’ event.
The card on Richard Davis Memorial Chase day is a seven-race affair featuring the two big contests as well as a Hereford Mares’ Chase Series qualifier, a Class 3 two-mile handicap chase, a bumper, a mares’ novices’ hurdle and a maiden hurdle to finish what is a very competitive day’s racing at the cathedral city track.
