The Richmond Stakes is a Group 2 flat race that allows two-year-old geldings and colts to enter. It takes place over six furlongs and is part of the five-day Glorious Goodwood festival at the end of July or the beginning of August.
The first-ever Richmond Stakes came way back in 1877. This straight race has a prize purse of £200,000, with the winner getting over £113,000. A number of Richmond Stakes winners have won some of the Classics races the following year.
While Goodwood is a very tricky track most of the time, straight racing makes it a little bit easier. Good positioning is vital throughout the race with an experienced jockey almost being essential if you want to back a contender.
