Powered by software from Yggdrasil Gaming, the superbly designed Age of Asgard takes a Nordic theme and presents five rows with 40 Paylines. Meet the Nordic gods, including Odin himself, as war brews!
This game has two separate reel sets, so it’s known as a Dual Machine game. The set-up comprises two 5×3 grids, one of which is the domain of the mighty female warriors. The lower grid is home to the baddies, so the stage is set for an epic clash between good and evil. It’s all about larger-than-life characters in a powerful setting.
You’ll also find various types of Wilds here, which mesh together to enhance payouts.
How to play
Choose your bet level, from 20p to as much as £200, and then hit Spin. Symbols kick off with the lower card suit values, worth a maximum of 2x stake. You’ll find eight of these in Age of Asgard, four in each grid, and designed in an ancient runic style.
Then there are six higher payers, three heroes from above and three monsters from the lower grid, worth up to 6x stake.

Age of Asgard has a couple of large Wilds, both of which are three symbols tall and as usual, replace all standard symbols. There’s one for each grid – a golden warrior for the goodies, a golden beast for the baddies. They can also ‘nudge’ so that they lock in place and take up a whole reel; when this happens, your reward is a respin.
On top of this, a third, smaller Wild crops up at random and you’ll be awarded this one during the Clash feature, as described below.
There’s also a Scatter symbol.
Bonus features
Free spins
Land a hat-trick of the free spins icons on one of the reel sets and it will expand to a 5×6 layout and grant you 10 spins, with symbols just from that grid.
Clash feature
This occurs when both grids have complete Wilds opposite one another. This causes random smaller Wilds to fly (up to four of them). If one lands on a high-paying icon, the whole stacked symbol turns Wild for better payouts.
Ragnarok spins
This launches if three Scatters show up on both grids at the same time. The grids merge and you get 20 freebies, only high-paying symbols are in play and the big Wilds invariably nudge.
Randomiser
Should a trio of Scatters land on one grid with two on the other, this activates. Essentially, it’s a wheel giving you one of the following:

- 50x stake
- Ragnarok free spins feature launches

Verdict
This seems to be the sort of hugely playable slot that really grows on you. And we can see why this Swedish operator wanted to explore its Nordic roots!
You should enjoy the artwork, animation and terrific design and gameplay in this slot – all of which, frankly, we reckon players have come to expect from Yggdrasil by now. The double-reel setup is also pretty intriguing, as is the outstanding interplay of extras.
