Big Top Slots launched back in 2010. It’s a five-reel, non-progressive video slot game from Microgaming with nine Paylines and a vibrant circus theme, and it plays at a cracking pace.
You can expect bright symbols and bold graphics that make it feel like a child’s picture book. Also, it has typical slot machine sound effects. Roll up, roll up, and enjoy all the fun and hilarity of the circus while it’s in town!
How to play
Big Top’s wide betting range means low-stakes players and high rollers alike are catered for, plus there’s a high maximum bet. But be aware from the outset that only one winning combo is paid out for each Payline.
There are Regular Max Bet and Spin features. Also, you can play in Expert mode. This gives you access to the Autoplay feature so you can let the game roll automatically for a predetermined number of spins. For information on payouts, simply hit View Payout.
This is not a hard game to play. It’s just a case of pressing the Spin button repeatedly and hoping you land some decent wins.
Expect cycling elephants, clowns, performing seals, monkeys, and, of course, a ringmaster. The game’s logo is its most lucrative icon. That is, at 5,000x wager, followed by the top hat-sporting lion, the clown, and the elephant.
The usual playing card symbols are also here: A, K, Q, and J plus the 10.
Big Top Slots Special Features
The Wild Clown icon is confusing because there’s also a ‘regular’ clown icon. It serves as the Wild symbol in Big Top. It replaces all other symbols to help players create wins, bar the Monkey Scatter icon. You’ll only see it on the middle three reels of the game, i.e., 2 through 4, and it won’t form winning combos in itself.
The Scatter is the Monkey icon, and you need to land three in a row to double your stake. Meanwhile, four in a row will land you 10x, while five wins 50x wager. The good news is the Scatter pays in all directions.
Unfortunately, you don’t get a free spins bonus round in Big Top. And there’s no progressive jackpot, either, so there’s really nothing here in the way of extra features.
Return to Player (RTP)
Return to Player or RTP is pretty strong at 96.94%. This gives you peace of mind when you play this game. It’s also low-variance, which means you should expect more frequent, but smaller wins.
Reviewers have commented on the lack of bonus features. But you’ll be in capable hands with a reputable provider, with an entertaining theme.
Essentially, this is one of those games that does what it says on the tin—a circus-themed, no-frills slot with the potential for some nice wins. Its simplicity and stripped-down nature make it a good one if you’re a fairly novice slots player. With Big Top, what you see really is what you get! However, if you want a myriad bells and whistles, you may well be better off looking elsewhere.
Indeed, this game is so basic that you may not be entirely surprised to learn that it was one of the first slots Microgaming released. Give it a go and see what you think—try it out in free-play mode first, with no registration or downloading needed.
