Description
Hypernova Megaways, from relatively new Aussie developer ReelPlay, features six reels across a hefty seven rows, with between 325 and a whopping 117,649 ways to win. And, if you don’t know your astrophysics, a hypernova is a particularly energetic supernova or powerful stellar explosion.
It’s this operator’s first effort using the Megaways game engine. This random reel modifier mechanic from Big Time Gaming changes the number of symbols appearing on a particular spin, throwing up far more ways of winning. Relax Gaming acquired its Megaways licence in 2018, and partner studios like ReelPlay became able to employ the game engine.
The slot also makes use of the cascading reel’s mechanism, in which symbols tumble down to help create winning symbols. These then vanish, to be replaced with new ones in a chain reaction, for a chance of continual wins before you need to turn the reels again.
The game takes you into outer space, showing stars against an inky sky on the left and a fiery one to the right of the reels, all set to a gorgeous soundtrack.
How to play
Spin away on your device of choice from 0.40 a spin to a high-rolling 60 a pop.
The usual playing card values, 9 through A, join three gems on the reels. Of these, the most lucrative is the white diamond at 100x stake for six in a row.
At the same time, there’s an additional horizontal reel above the principal reels to boost your winning combos.
Hypernova Megaways Special Features
Special Symbols
The Wild does its usual job of substituting for all the regular icons. It only shows up in the extra reel mentioned above. This game also features a Scatter symbol, a supernova or bubbly gas ball.
Bonus Features
If you’re a stickler for free spins, unfortunately, you’re set to be disappointed with Hypernova Megaways. Instead, there’s the round described below, which is this game’s only bonus round.
Jackpot Respins
Trigger this perk by landing at least six Scatters off a single spin. These remain fixed in place while you enjoy a trigger of respins. Should fresh Scatters rock up, they also freeze while the tally of respins resets to three.
This carries on until you’re all out of respins, or all 42 slots on the reels are occupied by Scatters. Each of these symbols comes with a cash value attached, of up to 100x wager – or a trophy. Your prize won from the cash values is totted up and awarded accordingly.
However, if you’ve scooped a trophy, you’ll be rewarded as follows:
- Bronze trophy – 10x stake
- Silver trophy – 50x stake
- Gold trophy – 250x stake
- Platinum trophy – 2,000x stake
While you can land several silver and bronze trophies in the same round of respins, you’ll only ever receive a single gold or platinum one. Theoretically, the feature can land you a maximum win of 6,250x overall wager. The main game, however, has a potential top prize of 8,641x stake per spin.
Return to Player
RTP or Return to Player in Hypernova Megaways is a pretty generous 96.09% in this mid-volatility game.
Verdict
One or two reviewers have expressed disappointment that Hypernova Megaways is rather generic, with too much in common with other games using the same mechanic, despite the potential of the high-class visuals. And, as mentioned, it won’t be for you if you insist on free spins.
However, it’s not without some very rich rewards – so give it a go in demo mode and see for yourself if it’s a game that works for you.
