Description
There’s a 1930s vibe to Niagara Falls Slot, a five-reeler with three rows and 20 Paylines which Scandi slot wizards Yggdrasil created with Manchester and Stockholm-based Northern Lights Gaming. (Indeed, the game is the first from Yggdrasil’s YGS Masters partnership scheme.)
This game aims to freshen up the classic coin slot. Visually, the May 2019 release may seem fairly simple initially. But look again and you’ll see some rich detail inspired by Art Deco, including five people going over the falls in barrels.
Look forward to a piano soundtrack that suits the era, plus three cracking bonus features.
How to play
You can play Niagara Falls Slot from just 20p up to a whopping £400 a go, on your device of choice.
Icons on the reels incorporate familiar fruit symbols like oranges, cherries, plums, bars, bells, red and blue 7’s plus the game’s logo, which shells out 10x stake for five on one line.
Niagara Falls Slot special features
Special symbols
This slot has a Wild symbol, forking out 10x stake, the same as the highest-paying regular icon if you manage to land five in a row. As ever, it replaces regular icons to help create winning combos.
Meanwhile, the whisky barrel is your passport to the free spins round.
Bonus features
As mentioned, there are three of these, as follows:
Coin Drop bonus feature
This activates if a gold coin shows up on Reel 5 during a spin in the main game. It then cascades down the reels, leaving a trail in its wake as it goes. It will drop into one of five bonus slots located underneath the reels. Bad luck if it falls into an empty place. But if it’s showing a bonus, you’ll be in line for one of these goodies:
- Stacked spin: Enjoy a respin with stacked icons
- Wild: The symbols left in the coin’s wake turn Wild
- Shake: A shake is added to the counter for the Cash Fall perk (see below)
- Free spins: The free spins round is launched giving you five free whirls
- Multiplier bonus: A 2x to 5x bonus for your current win
Free spins
Whisky barrel icons on Reels 1, 3 and 5 will access this perk. It kicks off with five wager-free goes, while the bonus positions beneath your reels now only have Wilds or empty places.
If you see a Wild on a bonus position after a free whirl, the whole reel above turns Wild for the rest of the round.
Cash Fall
This crops up at random during any main-game spin. It’s based on the traditional arcade slot you push coins into. Coins trickle into places below the reels, either into an empty place or one with a set cash value. If the latter, values get added to a meter and paid once the feature ends.
Super Coins multiply 2x anything that tumbles into place after they’ve landed.
Jackpot
This game doesn’t incorporate a progressive jackpot. But there’s a maximum potential win of €403,600.
Return to Player (RTP)
RTP or Return to Player here is a reasonable 96.2%, while volatility is on the higher side of medium.
Verdict
This may not be the game for you if you like super-complicated slots, and one reviewer commented that, while Niagara Falls Slot is perfectly fine, Yggdrasil has produced better. Equally, it’s not as if the ‘fresh twist on a classic fruity’ hasn’t been done before.
So it’s true that not everyone will love it – but it’s not without charm, and you may just find yourself falling for it anyway! Give it a go – and let us know how you got on.
