Perfect Potions Megaways from SG Digital plays on 6 reels with 3 rows and up to a whopping 700,000 Megaways during free spins.
The April 2021 release also features cascading reels. That means that symbols tumble down your screen to create winning combos, before disappearing so new ones can be formed, and so on, until there are no more wins.
With this game, you step into a world of wizardry as you enter Merlin’s chamber, while the jaunty soundtrack rounds off the atmosphere nicely.
There’s a starry purple background and a smouldering cauldron on either side of the reels, while the flag standard also on each side bears the two potion-triggered modifiers.
With expanding reels and numerous many ways to win, this game certainly packs a powerful punch.
How to play
Betting range is 0.20 to 50, meaning novice players and high rollers alike are catered for. Win by matching between three and six symbols on neighbouring reels, working only from left to right.
On the reels, the standard lower-paying values, the playing cards A through 10, are joined by candles held in skulls, eyeballs tumbling from a jar, the wizard’s staff, toads and Merlin himself, the most lucrative symbol.
Reels 2 through 6 can expand to become 14 symbols high – way higher than with most Megaways releases. As a spin sequence kicks off, between two and eight icons display on Reel 1, between two and seven on the remaining five, creating several thousands of ways to win.
The Scatter is an old wooden lectern bearing a spell book. As ever, you need these to trigger the free spins.
Although there are no default Wilds, if you activate the red potion modifier, your reel becomes full of Wild icons, which then do their usual thing of replacing the standard icons.
These pop up randomly to modify the reels – you’ll see between one and five potions above Reels 2 through 6, and they’re red or blue.
As you play each winning spin, once successful combos have disappeared, potions fall down to the lowest available space on the reel. Should one reach the lowest row, it tips into a cauldron, and launches a modifier as follows:
- The red potion turns all symbols Wild on the relevant reel
- The blue potion doubles the reel’s original height so that fresh icons fill the space
Land between four and six Scatters on any reel to bag 10, 12 or 15 free whirls. More freebies are available if you land more Scatters during this round.
When red potions trigger in this feature, the reel might show a Megaways multiplier, which increases the volume of symbols on the reel by the value displayed.
Additionally, when reels expand, they stay fixed that way for as long as the feature lasts.
Pay 50x your overall wager and you can use the Buy Pass feature (also described below) to initiate the free spins.
There may not be a progressive jackpot here, but maximum win is a massive 72,000x stake.
Return to Player
RTP or Return to Player hovers around 96.3% in this game, or a little above the average. Variance falls somewhere in the high-to-medium area of the range. Pay for the Buy Pass feature and your RTP will go up to 96.07%. Hit rate here is 1 in every 5.21, meaning there’s generally a win bubbling away.
There’s no denying this is a good-looking game – the visuals really are stunning. A finely honed maths model blends nicely with the playful graphics. And this slot builds on past successes such as Beetlejuice and Spartacus Megaways.
With some fine winning potential, SG seems to have brewed up a winner with Perfect Potions! Give it a go for yourself (playing in free demo mode first of all) and see if you agree.
