The Big Lebowski Slot pays homage to the 1998 classic crime-caper movie of the same name. (The film was, of course, a Coen brothers vehicle, starring John Goodman with Jeff Bridges as The Dude, alongside Julianne Moore.) Like the picture, much of the focus is on the tenpin bowls alley.
In the movie, the pot-smoking, bowling-loving Dude is drawn into a weird world of kidnapping plots and porn barons in a case of wrongful identity when he’s mistaken for another Jeffrey Lebowski.
The slot version of the tale has five reels, three rows and 25 fixed Paylines. It’s offered at 888 casinos and is powered by software from its Random Logic division. And with a progressive jackpot, plus two bonus features, not to mention a guitar soundtrack and quotes, sight and sounds from the film, there’s plenty to love here.
How to play
There’s nothing overly complex about playing The Big Lebowski Slot. Coin sizes in this game range from 25p to £500 and all Paylines are in play at all times.
The five principal characters are the higher-paying symbols; these include The Dude himself, Maude Lebowski, Donny Kerabatsos, Walter Sobchak and Jesus Quintana.
Meanwhile, bowling balls showing the 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace values are the lower-paying symbols.
The Dude’s ancient yellow vehicle serves as the Wild, and it replaces all icons save the bonus symbol, which in this game is a red tin can. (Spoiler alert – it actually contains Donny’s ashes!)
When it’s displayed on Reel 3, it expands to cover all three rows if there’s a possible win.
’Spare’ free spins
To continue the bowling concept, if you don’t win anything on a reel spin, you get a ‘spare’ free whirl offering you a further chance of landing a prize.
’Good night, sweet prince’ bonus game
Trigger this round when you land two red tin can bonus icons in the middle of Reels 1 and 5 in the same spin. Choose one of the five cans on offer and the chosen item will lead to a stake multiplier prize ranging in value from 3x to 10x.
Progressive jackpot (RTP)
This prize is dished out at random, so no specific symbols are needed, and a running total is displayed at the top of the screen. As ever, staking a bigger wager ups your chances of winning it big. (Just bear in mind that, in this game, you can’t win the jackpot on one of the ‘spare’ free spins described above.)
Return to Player (RTP)
The RTP in The Big Lebowski Slot, a low-variance game, is 94.47%.
If you were a fan of the original movie, you’ll love this tribute to it and, of course, will recognise all the characters’ quotes. You’ll probably also enjoy the great graphics and copious swearing! However, you don’t necessarily be a fan of the movie, or even to have seen it, to enjoy The Big Lebowski Slot.
It’s true that one or two commentators have suggested that The Big Lebowski Slot doesn’t quite capture The Dude’s true spirit, while the bonus features have been described as ‘underwhelming’. You’ll only know if it’s one for you if you try it out for yourself – do let us know what you think.
