Powered by Thunderkick, The Rift Slot is a five-reeler featuring three rows plus 17 fixed Paylines. It’s inspired by sci-fi (or perhaps horror fiction), with a storyline based loosely on Dr Who, in which darkness threatens.
The basic premise is that a strange rift has opened up in a town’s back alley, and it’s sucking in all the world’s magical artefacts. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to save as many of them as you can. Expect Wilds, sticky Wilds and a free spins round in this game, not to mention a host of weird and wonderful symbols.
The five transparent reels are set against the gloomy background of the darkened cobbled alleyway. If you’re brave enough to see what lies beyond the rift, read on!
How to play
Before playing, set your bets as you normally would, choosing Autoplay if that’s how you like to roll. As usual with Thunderkick, you can play on the device of your choosing, mobile or otherwise, and from a mere to 10p for up to as much as £100 a pop. There are up to 15 bet levels, meaning all attitudes to risk are catered for here.
Symbols don’t display on the usual reels but are seen as hovering above the dramatic nocturnal scene. They include coins in copper, bronze, silver and gold, a potion vial, a pocket watch, a burning spellbook and an octopus pendant.
The most lucrative symbol is the blazing book icon, rewarding you with up to 50x stake for five on a Payline. Wins during the base game may not always be that impressive until the Wilds show up, but thankfully they do appear pretty regularly.
The Rift Slot special features
The Rift Slot game icon is the Scatter here, while Wilds (pink geometric shapes bearing the word Wild) replace all paying icons in the usual manner.
Free spins round
As ever, land three Scatters to launch this, with 10 freebies for a hat-trick, four for 15 Scatters, and five for 20.
The round also activates the Rift Slot Seal, which allows you to progress one step for every Scatter gathered. Every three steps you move forward until the seal fills up grants you one extra sticky Wild placed at random on the reels, along with a couple of extra free whirls.
Because up to three pink sticky Wilds may be added as you play this feature, locking into place for as long as the game rounds last or until they form part of a winning combo, it offers the chance for some serious wins.
The Rift Spin
Land a couple of bonus symbols at any point on the reels to trigger this. Any Wild not appearing on a winning Payline becomes sticky, while additionally between one and three sticky Wilds arrive on the reels at random.
Return to Player (RTP)
This is a medium-to-high variance game, with an RTP or Return to Player of 96.3%, so it’s a shade higher than many of this operator’s offerings.
Look forward to stacks of pulse-racing action and an engaging soundtrack here. What’s more, it’s a lot simpler to play than it may seem at first. Players have come to expect visual excellence and great creativity from Thunderkick, and the Swedish studio doesn’t disappoint with The Rift.
In particular, you’ll love it if you like your games to have a rather dark feel, and this slot captures its creepy theme well. (Inevitably, however, it won’t be for absolutely everybody.)
Give it a whirl for free in the first instance – and share your thoughts about how you got on.
