Presenting five reels and four rows across 25 set-in-stone Paylines, Yggdrasil Gaming’s Vikings Go Bezerk is the sequel to its popular Vikings Go Wild offering.
Much of the original graphics and gameplay are retained here, and the reels spin on the sail of a Viking longboat out on the high seas, set against a reasonably clear sky. The bow and stern have been fashioned into a dragon’s head and tail respectively.
The pillagers’ mission, should you fancy joining them, is to take on both the open ocean and the Sirens, the mythical beings who would entice seafarers to their deaths with their beguiling songs.
How to play
Play on your device of choice from 25p a pop right up to a high-rolling £125. Set your bets in the usual manner, using Autoplay if you want a break from manual spinning.
You’ll find a quartet of Viking icons plus a similar number of coin emblems as you cross the ocean to look for treasure. As ever, score a win with three symbols in a row.
Vikings Go Bezerk is a slot that can go from peaceful waters to stormy conditions in seconds as symbols fly all over the place.
Vikings Go Bezerk special features
Keep an eye out for the treasure chest symbol on Reel 4, since it’s your ticket to a cash prize or coin win of between two and 40x stake. It can also activate the free spins perk.
Meanwhile, the golden treasure chest, which rocks up on Reel 5, yields bigger coin wins of up to 400x stake or seven, 14 or 21 no-charge whirls. You may also gain a Rage Boost (of which more later) or entry to the Ragnarök free spins round.
The Wild here is simply a big shield saying Wild, and as ever it replaces all other icons to create winning combinations, apart from the free spins Scatter. (This is an alluring young siren, with the sea in the background, bearing the words ‘free spins’.)
Free spins feature
Land three, four or five of the free-whirls Scatter to enjoy seven, 14 or 21 freebies respectively. Additionally, you will receive one of the following perks at random:
- A sticky Wild added to a random position or reel
- Between one and three additional free spins
- Five additional golden or standard treasure chests placed on the reels
- All Vikings are Berzerk (see below)
During this round, all Vikings may covert to sticky Wilds if they fight off the sirens, and this will happen once they are in Berzerk mode, meaning they always overcome the sirens. (The fight happens should a Viking land, but a win is far from guaranteed.)
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to retrigger additional spins from within this round.
If you launch the Ragnarök free spins version, Vikings are invariably Berzerk.
Four meters relating to each of the four Vikings are found below the reels. Whenever you score a win for that character, its meter fills a little more. Once it’s full up, you get seven free whirls, with the Viking in question in Berzerk mode.
There’s no progressive jackpot here, but the maximum win is €500,000.
Return to Player (RTP)
RTP or Return to Player is set at a reasonable enough 96.10% here, and you’ll find this a medium-variance offering. Hit frequency is a healthy 20.9%.
While it may initially feel like there’s a lot going on in Vikings Go Bezerk, in fact it’s pretty straightforward once you start playing. And industry reviewers have praised its fast-paced action and nicely designed features. So it feels like a worthy successor to Vikings Go Wild.
Sequels don’t always deliver (Grease 2, anyone?), but this game has plundered the theme again and come up trumps.
