Description
Yokozuna Clash is based on the ancient Japanese sport of sumo wrestling, and it’s a five-reeler with 243 ways of winning. Paying both ways, i.e. from left to right and vice versa, it’s the brainchild of Swedish operator Yggdrasil Gaming.
So make for thrilling, neon-lit Tokyo and the dohyo (ring) for the Grand Sumo Tournament to enjoy some all-round belly-thumping, foot-stamping action! You’ll assume the role of Haru or Riku, as you wrestle your opponents to become Yokozuna or grand champion.
Two wrestlers face one another and the reels turn behind them in this August 2019 release, while the intense music helps build up the atmosphere.
How to play
Play from a tiddling 10p up to a high-stakes £125. And, as you’d expect, you can enjoy this game on any sort of device.
Yggdrasil has ditched coin value here in favour of displaying symbols in cash value relative to the current stake, making things clearer and simpler.
Lower-paying card suit icons share reel space with green lizards, blue dragons, purple tigers and phoenixes – the birds are the most lucrative, at a dozen times stake for five in a row.
Bag wins when matching icons land on neighbouring reels, kicking off from Reel 1.
Yokozuna Clash special features
Special symbols
The Wild icon, a symbol which just has that word on it, replaces all symbols save the Scatter.
Bonus features
This game is about the free spins above all else. However, there are a couple of other perks. Blue-belted Riku can add a pair of Wilds to the middle three reels at random. Haru, meanwhile, in the green belt, can chuck in 2x or 3x multipliers to shore up your winning combos.
Sumo Clash feature
This kicks in with any five-of-a-kind winning combo. Between two and four more of the highest value symbols are then thrown in to boost your payout.
Free spins tournament
Unlike other slots, Yokozuna Clash makes you fight for your winnings!
Launch it when the free spin icon appears at the same time on Reels 1 and 5. You’ll be allocated Haru or Riku to wrestle a randomly chosen opponent from the base game.
Bag a winning combo from the left and the power meter moves to the right by a single bar. Get a win from the right (i.e. beginning at Reel 5) and the meter gets shunted left by two or three places.
If you bag two (or more) wins including ones from the left and right, that’s a draw.
The feature ends once the power meter reaches the left. If it reaches the right, you fight Yokozuna. Beat him and enjoy a doubling multiplier on every free spin win.
What’s more, each sumo gives you extras:
- Riku (blue belt): Adds between three and four Wilds to Reels 2,3 or 4 at random, while shunting the meter to the right by a single bar
- Haru (green belt): Throws a 3x or 4x multiplier on to a winning combination, while pushing the meter one bar to the right
- O’Conner (Scottish Sumo!): Moves the meter two places to the left and bestows a 3x or 4x multiplier
- Daisuke: Moves the power meter to bars to the left, awards up to four Wilds on spins where he does this
- Yokozuna: Also called the Demon Sumo, he only comes into play during the round’s second stage. He can move the meter left three bars and awards up to four random Wilds plus a 3x or 4x multiplier.
Jackpot
With no progressive jackpot, maximum win on the default maximum bet is € 431,150.
Return to Player (RTP)
Yokozuna Clash is mid-variance offering, with an RTP or Return to Player of 96.3%.
Verdict
Yokozuna Clash may not be for everybody, and indeed not every reviewer has loved it. But its impressive graphics and animations are as modern as sumo wrestling is ancient. What’s more, there’s some serious winning potential to be enjoyed here.
And, as is often the way, it really isn’t as complicated as it may seem once you get going. So Yokozuna Clash is a heavyweight game! Give it a go and let us know how you got on.
