Run in late November or early December at Aintree each year, the Becher Chase takes place over the Grand National fences over a stayers’ trip of 3 miles, 2 furlongs making it an ideal trial for the big race in April.
A Grade 3 handicap chase, the Becher features 21 fences and carries a prize fund of £150,000 with the form working out incredibly well for the National itself. The Becher was established back in 1992 when Aintree first introduced this winter meeting and has gone on to be considered the key warm-up for the Grand National.
Previous winners such as Earth Summit and Amberleigh House have gone on to take the National, while the 2018 and 2019 winner Walk In The Mill went onto be fourth in the main event in ’19 and was very high up in the betting before the 2020 version was forced to be cancelled.
