Description
It’s been some years since Scandi developer Thunderkick launched the original predecessor to Esqueleto Explosivo 2, based on the famous Day of the Dead fiesta and which was a smash hit at the time. Now it’s back, in a newly tweaked second incarnation with all the best bits from before, plus a dishing up of multipliers, and a freshly minted round of free spins.
The five-row, three-reel layout stays the same, as does the Mucho Multiplier feature described below, while the setting is, once again, a Mexican street scene. The original light-hearted feel remains, complete with guitar music, singing and cheering, but payouts have risen from potentially 700x to 5,000x stake here. Equally, ways of winning in Esqueleto Explosivo 2 have mushroomed from 17 to a whopping 99 Paylines.

How to play
Enjoy Esqueleto Explosivo 2 from a mere 10p to up to £100 a pop. Place your bet and then spin manually or use Autoplay to turn the reels for a preset number of whirls.
The half-dozen symbols in the new game are broadly similar to the first version, albeit with the odd new character. Skulls, which fall down on to the skeletal musicians as previously, come in orange, blue, cyan, pink and green.
The female purple skull (complete with earrings) is the most lucrative icon, offering five times stake.
Create winning combos by landing three to five of the same symbols on neighbouring reels, from Reel 1 onwards. Lines can be diagonal or horizontal.
The dropping symbols game mechanic offers a cascading wins arrangement which blasts away winning symbols from the reels to make room for fresh ones and create winning chains.
Esqueleto Explosivo 2 special features
Special symbols
The purple skull serves as the Scatter.
The Wild is a yellow and orange, sunglasses-sporting skull that you’ll only see on Reels 2 through 4 and which, as usual, substitutes for all symbols apart from the Scatter.
Free spins bonus game
Fans will be delighted to see a free spins round here, not least because there wasn’t one in the original Esqueleto. Land three to five Scatters in the base game to enjoy 10, 12 or 14 freebies accordingly. There are further spins for bagging more than five Scatters.
You can continue to win freebies during the round, with two, three, four, or five Scatters landing you three, seven, 10 or 12 free goes.
What’s more, every third Wild you collect awards a further spin, while also removing the lowest-value multiplier from the Mucho Multiplier feature. (This carries on until you reach a 32x base multiplier, at which point a 64x multiplier applies.)
Mucho Multiplier feature
In Esqueleto Explosivo 2, this triggers with a win on a symbol drop or when at least one ‘explosivo’ Wilds show up, and this multiplier goes up one each time, up to 32x.
Return to Player (RTP)
With the second version of Esqueleto, Thunderkick has cranked up the volatility a notch and raised Return to Player (RTP) a touch to 96.13%. So gone are the steady, slow wins of before, replaced by more attractive winning potential.
Verdict
There’s a lot to enjoy in this sequel, and most industry reviewers have welcomed it, so we reckon you’re in for a treat, whether or not you were a fan the first time around. The Day of the Dead is always as a celebration rather than a sad occasion in Mexico, and the sense of fiesta is very much continued in this game. So we reckon you’ll love the bones of it! Give it a go – and tell us what you thought.
