Description
Flux Slot is a five-reel, 15-Payline space-themed video slot from developer Thunderkick. It’s full of brightly coloured 3D symbols which glow against a darkened backdrop and look as though they’re floating.
The basic concept was to create a river of crystals flowing through a fictional universe, giving off energy.
Launched in 2014, Flux is one of the Swedish studio’s earlier releases. And with no fewer than three free spins features to choose from, not to mention stacked Wilds and Scatter symbols, there’s everything to play for here.
How to play
Before immersing yourself, adjust your bets and click on Spin or Autoplay to whirl the reels automatically for a predetermined number of turns up to 5,000. There are eight differently coloured, geometric symbols which rotate slowly as you play, in two shades of blue plus purple, pink, green, yellow, orange and red.
At 24x stake, the yellow star-like symbol is the highest payer. Next is the orange ball-like icon, at 12x wager.
Winning combos arise when you land three of the same symbols in a row from left to right on a Payline, kicking off from the left.
As ever, you can adjust the sound, the speed of play, and there’s an option to power the game via your space bar.
Flux Slot special features
Special symbols
The Wild here is simply the letter W in yellow, set within a rotating frame, and it has the standard function of replacing all other icons except the Scatter bonus. In Flux Slot, that’s a silvery letter B and it’s responsible for kick-starting the free spins round, as discussed below.
With the Wild, it’s stacked so can on occasion expand to fill up a whole reel.
Bonus features
Free spins round
As ever, bag at least three bonus symbols to activate this feature. You’ll then have three options. If you have three Scatters, choose between:
- 16 free spins and the chance to win both ways (i.e. left to right on a Payline and vice versa)
- A dozen free spins plus three extra rows in play
- Eight free whirls plus the chance to win more with both-way wins and three extra rows added (and by the way, this is often the smart choice)
- Land four bonus symbols and those 16, 12, eight figures rise to 32, 24 and 16; land five and they go up still further to 48, 36 and 24.
Return to Player (RTP)
Flux is ever so slightly above Thunderkick’s average RTP, at 96.2%. What’s more, the variance is on the lowish side of medium, meaning you get more frequent but smaller wins, making it a sound choice if you’re more risk-averse than most, perhaps less so if you enjoy chasing the really big jackpots.
Verdict
Thunderkick has done it again here with a cleverly designed and visually splendid slot game. Simple yet highly effective, it’s been compared to NetEnt’s Starburst, albeit with different features.
Clearly, it’s not the only slot game to take outer space as its inspiration. And one or two reviewers have said they found triggering the free spins to be fiendishly tricky.
But, as ever with this operator, look forward to a slick, clean appearance and crystal-clear background sound; in this case a futuristic track.
