Thunderkick’s quirky five-reeler Frog Grog presents three rows with 23 Paylines and is all about magic potions, spells and that staple of all witches’ brews – frogs! There’s a cartoonish vibe, while the game takes place in a lab-like witches’ den with books and candles around the reels, which lie within a set of shelving.
How to play
Spins cost from just 10p all the way up to £100 a go, and as usual, you can play on your device of choice. You won’t find a free spins round here, but the other perks should compensate amply for that.
Because of the Dropping Symbols mechanic, icons which contributed to a win vanish as new ones take their place, meaning every single spin can bestow multiple wins.
A multiplier of between 1x and 7x also comes into play, rising with each consecutive win.
Your symbols on the reels include various bottles of magic potions in blue, green, purple and red, alongside other vital spell ingredients such as thistles and moths. Of the regular icons, the moth is the most rewarding at 10x stake for five in a row.
The Wild symbol (a Frog) does its usual thing of replacing all the game’s other icons. When it forms part of a winning combo, the Frog Burp feature described below is launched.
This plays at random in the event of a non-winning whirl. It means that all icons apart from the frog, moth and flower vanish from the reel set so that you enhance your chances of scoring a significant win.
All symbols removed grant wins, up to a maximum equivalent of five in a row. Again, the multiplier feature is active, so that when you keep getting wins one after the other, you can increase them by up to 7x.
Frog Burp perk
As mentioned above, you initiate this when the frog contributes to a winning spin. It sees the frog eliminating all symbols on the same row and reel. The creature also becomes blue here and stays Wild for the whole spin, or until it’s part of a new winning combo again.
While you won’t find a progressive jackpot as such in Frog Grog, there’s nonetheless the chance to win up to 1,616x original wager on every whirl, added to which is the multiplier factor.
Return to Player (RTP)
The variance here is medium to high, while RTP or Return to Player is perfectly reasonable at 96.1%. Hit frequency is good at 28.5% or a little over one in four.
Quirky is definitely the best adjective for describing Frog Grog! And it’s this quirkiness (bordering on weirdness) which sets it apart from other magic-themed slots, of which there are several.
There’s a lot happening in terms of features despite the lack of free spins, and winning potential here is high. Equally, while this slot may seem odd, it’s not a desperately complicated one to play.
The game also showcases the superb animation and design for which Thunderkick is well known. So take it for a whirl – and tell us whether or not you found it spellbinding!
