Designed across five reels with just 10 Paylines plus three rows, Wicked Circus Slot from Yggdrasil Gaming is an atmospheric, classy slot, released in autumn 2016. Prepare to enjoy all the fun of the virtual fair! (Albeit with a slightly scary twist.)
Symbols whirl on a reflective surface bordered by dressing-room lights, and through the mirror, we see the gloomy interior of a wooden circus caravan. There’s definitely something a little creepy about clowns, circuses and the like, and this game plays on that to great effect.
Meanwhile, the catchy soundtrack heightens the ambience, complete with drum rolls and peals of laughter for atmospheric effect. And, best of all, Wicked Circus Slot comes with a Jokerizer Mode offering mystery prizes of over 6,000 coins.
How to play
Spin away from a mere 10p a pop up to a modest £10 maximum after setting your bets in the usual fashion. Half of the Paylines (i.e. five) kick off from the left of your screen, the other half from the right.
You’ll see only half a dozen symbols during the base game, including a knife thrower’s target incorporating a star shape, a lit-up 7 and a bell, plus fruit-machine favourites lemons, cherries and grapes. The star/knife-throwing target is the most lucrative icon, forking out 300 coins for five in a row.
Wicked Circus Slot special features
The suitably sinister-looking Joker is this game’s only special symbol, and he is key to its bonus features described below.
Bonus features on Wicked Circus slot
This boosts your chances of winning, and it kicks in after once you’ve scooped a win, with one spin in this mode offered for every Payline on which you win. (You can keep a check on the number via the meter beneath the reels.)
Winnings are pooled in the Jokerizer balance, visible above the reels. After each round, you can collect the balance or spend 20 coins on another spin in this mode. Should you choose to take the money and run, the mode becomes deactivated.
To win outside Jokerizer mode, you’ll need a hat trick (or more) of Jokers.
Otherwise, wins are as follows:
- Two Jokers wins between 40 and 400 coins
- Three wins 500 to 1,000 coins
- Four wins 800 to 3,000 coins
- Five wins 2,000 to 6,000 coins
- Once you’ve won 500 coins or more, you’re sent back to the base game.
After you’ve landed a minimum of a couple of Jokers in Jokerizer mode, you can choose to fix them in place, in which case every subsequent whirl costs you 60 coins. But you then have the rest of the spins in this mode to aim for a full house of five of the creepy clowns, allowing you to enjoy the bigger prizes.
There’s no progressive jackpot here. Instead, the maximum payout is 6,000 coins.
Return to Player (RTP)
Wicked Circus Slot comes with a Return to Player or RTP of 96.3%, an eminently healthy figure. You’ll also find this a high-volatility game, so you may need to brace yourself for some dry runs.
The Jokerizer mode, in particular, is this game’s stand-out attraction. Wicked Circus Slot also looks and sounds amazing, exactly as fans have come to expect from this operator.
You may find it takes more getting used to than some other games, but you’ll soon be up to speed. Equally, the gameplay here may not be for everyone. But give it a go – and let us know if it made you want to run away and join the circus!
