Description
With a conventional 5×3 format and 20 set-in-stone Paylines, the Wolf Hunters slot from Yggdrasil Gaming challenges players to face their fears in a quest-style caper themed on werewolves.
Travel in time and space to a medieval town where one such beast is terrorising the area. As you would expect, the action takes place on a moonlit night, and there’s a brilliantly dark feel to this game, with its backdrop of an imposing castle located somewhere like Transylvania.
The rewards are definitely there if you’re brave enough to head off on this adventure, and they include three features in the free spins round. You’ll be joining two key characters, the hunter and huntress, professional killers out to track down and tackle the region’s werewolves.
How to play
Play this autumn 2018 release on all devices from 20p up to £100. Symbols you’ll see on the reels include blue diamonds, red hearts, purple spades and green clubs, all set against a panel of wood.
Among the line-up of seven regular symbols are poison bottles, monster traps and stakes – very useful things when it comes to killing a werewolf! Then there’s the beast himself, the most lucrative icon at 25x stake for five in a row.
As usual, to form a winning combo you’ll need to line up three similar symbols in a row on a Payline.
Wolf Hunters Slot special features
Special symbols
The Werewolf serves as a high-paying icon unless it’s hit by one of the hunters, in which case it becomes a sticky Wild and you get a respin. If the hunter (or huntress) fails, this symbol just remains a standard high payer.
The game also has another sticky Wild icon, which always bestows respins. Wilds can rock up in the free spins and base game and, as ever, replace standard icons.
The hunter and huntress in effect serve as your Scatters here.
Bonus features
Free spins
In all, there are three of these features. To launch the standard round, bag two Scatters on the reels at the same time. Enjoy 10 free whirls plus the chance to earn more.
Gather three Hunters or Huntresses to upgrade them and win two further freebies each time.
Free spins: Slayer mode
Every successful hit on the Werewolf diminishes its life by a factor of one. When its total is 0, the Slayer free spins round kicks in. This gives you 10 free whirls. During the round, there are no free spins icons and Wilds replace all Werewolf emblems on the reels.
Once the round is done, the ‘health bar’ for the Werewolf returns to 600.
Free spins: Rage mode
Equally, if a hunter has a successful attack, they get a ‘Rage’ point. Once their total reaches 100, that activates the Rage free spins mode and seven free whirls are yours. (When you first load Wolf Hunters, the hunter will get a certain number of free Rage points at random.)
For the whole of this round, the hunter is upgraded but collects no further rage points or free spins icons. After it’s done, the ‘Rage collection’ returns to zero.
Jackpot
The maximum win in Wolf Hunters Slot is 15,000 coins; there is no progressive prize.
Return to Player (RTP)
Variance in Wolf Hunters Slot falls somewhere between medium and high. Return to Player or RTP isn’t terrible, but, at 96.1% neither is it the highest.
Verdict
This game offers an absorbing atmosphere and amazing sound effects, and it seems to have met with reviewers’ approval. It has some serious earning potential, too, so you could just be in for a monstrous win!
At the same time, it looks stunning across all devices, has some exciting features, and is generally yet another quality offering from Yggdrasil. It’s also pretty similar to Vikings Go to Hell if you’re familiar with that one.
