Describing itself as the world’s leading end-to-end global gaming company, International Game Technology (IGT) has bases in London, Rome, Las Vegas and Rhode Island. It employs more than 12,000 people worldwide.
Rome is the heart of international lottery operations and Rhode Island houses the American lottery HQ, while one commentator described IGT as being:
as much a part of Nevada as the Battle Born motto, bristlecone pine trees, sagebrush and Lake Tahoe.
International Game Technology is a huge player in the industry, providing its services to bricks-and-mortar and then online casinos over the decades. It’s probably best known for its land-based machines. Indeed, it’s hard to find a physical venue that doesn’t offer at least one of the company’s solutions.
But now there’s also a massive web-based presence. Its games are available in instant-play mode so no downloading is needed, and on mobile for Android, iOS and Windows devices. (Although not all games are optimised for mobile.)
ITG’s transition to the web-based side of things has been, we have to say, pretty much seamless.
It’s true that IGT may not be quite as high-profile as some of the other big players in the industry, like Microgaming, Playtech and NetEnt. It also produces fewer games than some, but it has a powerful presence nonetheless.
What’s IGT’s history?
An Italian gambling firm, Lottomatica, changed its name to Gtech after acquiring an American gaming company of that name. In 2015, Gtech became International Game Technology after it bought the company in a $6.4bn merger.
IGT’s roots go back to the mid-1970s – William Redd founded it as A-1 Supply in 1975. It became Sircoma three years later, before finally changing its name to International Gaming Technology in 1981, the same year it went public.
So what does ITG actually do?
International Game Technology allows players to enjoy their favourite games across a variety of channels and regulated markets, from gaming machines and lotteries to social and digital gaming.
Games
Most International Game Technology-powered offerings are classic and video slots or progressive jackpots. It also develops video poker titles, such as Joker Poker and Deuces Wild. Players have come to expect stunning visuals, first-class graphics and an array of innovative features with titles from this name.
Many are inspired by board games (such as Monopoly) and TV shows or movies (Wheel of Fortune, Ghostbusters). Equally, many of its online games have their roots in their land-based ancestors.
IGT claims to offer the industry’s biggest number of game themes, with a huge library of titles and game types targeting specific player segments. It’s also known for its attention to detail and outstanding design, as well as its free spins and generous welcome bonuses.
On the downside, one prominent reviewer said some of the slots look slightly dated these days while adding that the speed of some slots wasn’t all it could be.
There are hundreds of titles in IGT’s games portfolio. Among the popular names are:
- Noah’s Ark – Full of great prizes and rewarding bonuses
- Siberian Storm – Join some exotic cats in their natural habitat as you play a gargantuan number of Paylines (720 in all)
- Crown of Egypt – This one takes you on an impressive virtual journey to Ancient Egypt
- Cleopatra – One of the most frequently played progressive jackpot slots to be powered by this brand’s software
- Cluedo – This busts at the seams with bonuses and a very attractive progressive jackpot prize
