A popular Sunday meeting staged just after the madness that is the Grand National at Aintree is Plumpton’s Sussex Raceday, celebrating everything good about the county and its connection to horse racing.
A seven-race card is usually well supported by trainers and jockeys, the day is highlighted by the two-and-a-half-mile Class 3 Handicap Hurdle, won in 2019 by popular local duo Gary Moore and son and jockey Jamie Moore who as a duo know every blade of grass around Plumpton.
Elsewhere on the card, there is a Handicap Chase for conditional jockeys, a Maiden Hurdle which acts as a qualifier for Novices’ Championship Hurdle Series, the Hepworth’s Crazy Horse Cup which is a Handicap Chase, a Handicap Hurdle, another Handicap Chase and finally Bumper race to finish the card.
The meeting takes place in April so managed to gather not only dedicated National Hunt racing fans, but also those looking to get out in the spring weather and enjoy whatever sunshine is offered up!
